UAE’s SWIFT User Group Steering Committee (SUGSC) held its last 2020 virtual meeting in December, which was presided over by Mr. Jamal Saleh, Chairman of UAE’s SWIFT User Group and Director General of UAE Banks Federation (UBF).
Mr. Saleh welcomed SUGSC members and thanked them for their ongoing dedication and efforts, as well as their collaboration with UBF and all concerned stakeholders and partners to ensure that our networking across the financial ecosystem in the UAE remains reliable, efficient, and secure. Members joined Mr. Saleh welcoming the new committee member, Mr. Rahul Anup Jayakar, who has been nominated by Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank to replace Mr. Haitham El-Maayergi.
SUGSC members approved the minutes of their last meeting, which was held on the 2nd of June 2020, and discussed the activities performed during the year 2020, as well as approved 2021’s budget, action plan, and external auditor’s re-appointment.
During the meeting, SUGSC members announced the establishment of a “National Member Group (NMG)” and suggested to accordingly change SUGSC name to become “SWIFT User Group Steering Committee & National Member Group” while preserving all terms and conditions, charter, and group structure, and while adopting a wider agenda approach in which it would become customary to invite related stakeholders and experts to SUGSC/NMG meetings.
The meeting discussed SWIFT’s new Training Centre in the UAE, where SWIFT User bankers will be invited to customized and dedicated virtual user training programs by SWIFT. The committee also confirmed the two nominations (from First Abu Dhabi Bank and Sharjah Islamic Bank) who will represent UBF on SWIFT’s Customer Security program - CSCF Working Group & Consultation in 2022.
